The North Shore Fire Commission, the City of Wauwatosa Police and Fire Commission, City of West Allis Police and Fire Commission, and City of St. Francis Police and Fire Commission are accepting applications to fill current and future vacancies on the entry level Firefighter/EMT staff of the North Shore Fire Department, Wauwatosa Fire Department, West Allis Fire Department, and St. Francis Fire Department.  This is a joint hiring process; however, each Fire Department will be creating a separate hiring eligibility list.  

Qualifications
: High school diploma or equivalent, valid Driver’s License, 18 years of age by due date of application, Wisconsin EMT license and Wisconsin Firefighter I certification or equivalent.  Preferred :  Nationally Registered Paramedic Technician License.  

Preference Points
: Preference points will be given to candidates who have obtained additional general and fire education and/or emergency medical licenses and certifications.  

Application Process
 Interested candidates should apply on-line at the City of Wauwatosa’s website.    

Please Note : Qualified candidates must successfully pass oral interviews, background and psychological investigations, medical examination and drug screen and possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.  

In order to be eligible for hire, applicants must possess a CPAT certificate from an IAFF/IAFC authorized testing site dated 
no earlier than February 5, 2020.  A valid CPAT certificate must be in hand on the date of the conditional offer of employment, which will be February 5, 2021.


The North Shore Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the communities of Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay.  The Wauwatosa Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the community of Wauwatosa.  The West Allis Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the community of West Allis.  The St. Francis Fire Department provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the community of St. Francis.
